Star Delta Motor Starter
A Star Delta motor starter is an electrical device used to start and control the speed of electric motors that have a high starting current, such as three-phase induction motors. It is also known as a Wye-Delta starter. The Star Delta starter works by connecting the motor windings in a "star" configuration during starting, which reduces the starting current and torque. Once the motor reaches a certain speed, the starter switches the windings to a "delta" configuration, which provides full voltage to the motor and allows it to run at full speed. The Star Delta motor starter is commonly used in industrial applications such as pumps, compressors, and fans, where a high starting torque is required but a low starting current is desired to reduce electrical stress on the motor and power system.
